Okay, you downloaded infoscape (and maybe you like it), but you want to know a little bit more about its internals… well, I’ll try to describe in several blog entries the most interesting tech details about the software, here are some basics:

Finally, infoscape is ready to download. This version is very basic but has been intensively tested (I always had the latest development version running at work, hehe). Main features included are:
Requirements are simple: if your computer runs Windows 2000 or XP and has internet access, then you can bring this information cornucopia to your desktop.

For all those thinking about infoscape as “vaporware”, here is a screenshot of how the program looks like.
In the screen you can see the “desktop panel”, which is the blue window at right displaying a headline and its contents.
The big window is the “configuration panel”, which at the moment allows you to add the channels and configure its authentication properties.
Finally, at bottom-right you can see the typical tray icon to configure, or get the hell out of the program.

I´m so tired of writing “Welcome to the…” style entries for my application weblogs. So this is it:
infoscape is a RSS news agregator supporting RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0 and AtomFeed formats. It fetches news from your favourite RSS sources and displays them in your desktop in a pseudo-random and eye-candy way (a panel smoothly appears and disappears each time something happens in the world). Simple. Easy. Handy.
In addition, infoscape supports basic HTTP authentication for retrieving your private feeds (such as eMail or private company news).
Currently infoscape is looking for support in testing (beta version will be released soon), gfx design, and usability ideas; so don’t hesitate to post and let us know you.
Finally, infoscape is a freeware software project supported by only one developer (who has friends, family and a job) at the moment, so don’t expect regular releases or lots of functionality added each week.
