Infoscape 1.7 finally out.

It’s done! featuring only a few fixes and a couple new minor features, final version of infoscape (unless I find the time and very good reason) is ready to download.

I thank everyone interested on infoscape during past half year and I hope both old, new and future users enjoy this release.

Development efforts decreasing, entering bug fixing cycle.

As I previously said, infoscape development will stop soon (maybe next month) after a bug fixing phase ended by a final release. This means that bug reports via comments in this blog are welcome.

Ending this project will allow me to start other personal projects or participate in existing ones away from RSS and such technologies.

Looking for a tech job? infoscape could help you.

No, I’m not hiring personnel for the project, I can’t even afford a paid web hosting… what this post is about is job offers via RSS. I’ve seen them at Signal vs. Noise blog but I bet other job seeking sites do export its offers in RSS too.

No news means… good news.

Long time without posting blog entries, mainly because last two weeks have been a little bit stressing in and out of work. And I also have to admit that my brand new PDA took me many hours :P.

But don’t worry anyone, small fixes and features still on development. I hope a new infoscape to be released next month.

infoscape Live! Top 10 released.

Recently, I found myself wondering which patterns do infoscape’s user community follow… which RSS feeds do they read? do they drink coffee or tea? how geek are they? well, my small database can’t answer most of these questions, but at least a few SQL queries revealed me the 10 most readed feeds by infoscape users: now available on infoscape Live! homepage.

Pssst, guess what? Slashdot and Digg lead the list.

Stuff I want to have under my "Headlines" submenu.

  • Repeat last (1|5|10) headlines.
  • Repeat all headlines (aka “Flush internal state”).
  • Dismiss all buffered headlines.
  • Headline mashup (random headlines from all channels).
  • Your ideas here…

    Get infoscape 1.6 now!

As promised, once again, a new version of infoscape is available with nice features for PodCast and VideoCast consumers. I don’t expect major features to be added anymore; this means that from now on infoscape enters in a bug-fixing cycle: minor fixes, resource usage improvements, memory leaks…

As I always do, I’ll keep appreciating your feedback and support.

    New logo for infoscape!

Since infoscape’s initial logo was an original creation from Matt Brett, I decided to avoid the risk of being sued and so I created a new icon based on the same idea but giving shapes and colors a more “Web 2.0″ style. I hope you guys like it.

And if anyone doesn’t like it, I challenge good designers out there to share their skills with this proyect’s user community.

    Important notice

In infoscape 1.5, GDI+ library (gdiplus.dll) dependency was removed, but unfortunately neither the installer or the application take care of deleting this file (which is about 1 Mb) from application directory after overriding old versions with 1.5 or higher. If you don’t like to hold this bunch of useless (for infoscape) bytes in your HD, feel free to delete it. Important: Only delete this file from infoscape’s application directory! removing this library from other application or system folders might cause application crashes followed by uncontrollable user rage.

    infoscape 1.6 in test phase.

Okay, now that all the cool stuff is inside, I think this thing is mature enough to experience a week of alpha-testing. Just for those impatient, here is a small list of incoming features:

  • Media download support for those feeds which support it (mainly PodCasts and VideoBlog feeds).
  • Memory consumption improved.
  • Bugfixes and minor tweaks.
